The University Sports Centre would like to welcome to the new academic year at the University of Patras. With this booklet we would like to inform you on a wide range of sporting activities and events that you could participate in, in your free time.
If you are part of a Sports Association, you could take part in the groups representing our university, participating in University Sports Competitions and National Student Championships.
If you are not part of a Sports Association, through your registration with the University Sports Centre, you can take part in organized sports groups.

Here you will also find Physical Education Teachers of various specialties, seconded from Primary and Secondary Education, as well as timeworker Physical Education Teachers from the GSS. The University Sports Centre is supervised by the Sports Commission and supported by four Management Officers.
The University Sports Centre
The University Sports Centre is located on the east side of the campus and comprises a cluster of fully renovated sports areas, such as a closed basketball and volleyball court with stands and electronic scoreboards, gymnastic and dance halls, a gym, changing rooms, showers and a sauna. It also features high-standard outdoors sports areas for games and individual or group fitness sessions, such as a soccer field with lawn and stands, modern infrastructure for athletics competitions, and outdoor tennis and basketball courts. All sports facilities comply with the standards set by the General Secretariat of Sports. The central aim of the University Sports Centre is the design and implementation of group and specialized fitness programs, targeted at the whole university community (students, teachers and administrative staff). It is also developing systematic activities in the organisation of regional, national and global University sporting events. All the sports centre services are grouped into the following categories:
- Fitness programs: these programs are designed for the development of fitness and muscle strengthening and are classified into three categories, beginners, occasional users and advanced.
- Internal championships: on an annual basis, the Sports Centre organizes internal championships with representative groups from university departments, for football, volleyball and basketball. It also organizes internal tournaments for tennis, table tennis chess, swimming, water-polo, classic sports, shooting, and archery, performances of traditional Greek dances, aerobics and martial arts demonstrations.
- National / World championships: as a member of the Sports Commission for Higher Education (E.A.T.E.), the Sports Centre participates in representative teams in all national student championships carried out by the Ministry of Education, aiming to promote the champions who will then take part in Pan-European or international student championships.
In addition to the above activities, every year (early June) the Sports Centre organizes the Sports Day of the University of Patras with a multitude of sports activities and other informative/ scientific Events / Seminars, as well as cycling and trekking days... It also often undertakes the organisation of National Student Championships or the National University Championship at its facilities.
- The University Sports Centre is open: Monday - Friday 09.30-22.00
- The Secretariat is open Monday - Friday: 09.30-13.30.
- Sports programs start on the 1st of October
Gym
Muscle strengthening
The muscle strengthening gym operates on a daily basis, within the closed court.
It includes all kinds of equipment to maintain or increase muscular power.
The hall also features parallel bars, mattresses, as well as music and mirrors.

Track – Cross-country race Daily training at the facilities of the University Sports Centre. Participation in the National Student Championship. Organisation of the annual cross-country race in the University City.
Gymnastics Daily training at the facilities of the University Sports Centre, in the gymnastics halls. Aerobics, pilates, yoga, body conditioning, step etc programs available.
Traditional Greek Dances Learners and Advanced Training Sessions in the gymnastics halls of the University Sports Centre. Participation in shows
Tennis Daily use of the University Sports Centre facilities, by booking the courts. Organisation of a tournament. Participation in the University representation team.
Ping-pong Daily use of the University Sports Centre facilities. Organisation of a tournament. Participation in the University representation team for the National University Championship.
Chess Internal Championship. Participation in the University representation team.
Shooting Training with air guns and guns at the shooting range of the University Sports Centre. Participation in the University representation team.
Martial Arts Participation in special weekly sessions in the University Sports Centre.
Skiing Training at the tracks of the Kalavrita Ski Centre, in the framework of organised excursions. Participation in the National Student Championship.
Archery Training available upon agreement with the University Sports Centre.
Sailing Open sea Sailing training available upon agreement with the University Sports Centre.

Necessary documentation:
- Application (available at the Secretariat of the University Sports Centre)
- 2 photographs (1 photograph to renew registration)
- Certificate of good health
- Document proving student status or employment at the University of Patras (only for presentation)
Registration during the opening hours of the University Sports Centre Secretariat (09.30-13.30 daily).
By bus
Every 10 - 15 minutes by bus number 6 that leaves from Ermou Street. Services available every 10 minutes throughout the course of the academic year and every hour in the summer and Easter and Christmas holidays.
As bus number 6 is not exclusive to the University, you must pay attention that the bus displays a relevant sign.
For students, reduced tickets are valid throughout the academic year
Students who hold season tickets can use the buses that are specially chartered by the University of Patras for transporting students.
